Become a Member Today!
When you join NEM, you become part of a collaborative community that shares resources, knowledge, and tools. Below you will find our membership tiers and what they offer. If you purchase a full year at once, your membership will be discounted one month. If you're still on the shelf, you can always visit the space, come to one of our events, or learn more about our nonprofit before making a decision. Please note all members must submit a background check and all paid memberships include your whole household at no extra charge. More on this at the bottom of the page.

- 1. Some tools require training before they can be used safely.
- 2. Certain tools cost a great deal to keep maintained or use a non-insignificant amount of power or materials when running. These include laser cutters, cnc woodshop devices, and 3D printers. These tools are considered timed tools and are billed for their use unless you're on an unlimited membership. We will work our hardest to make sure these services are affordable and equitable. Monthly tool credits do not roll over to the next use period.
- 3. Guests cannot use tools and must be chaperoned by an existing member who are responsible for their behavior. Additional passes available to members here.
- 4. Voting rights are on specific board decisions (per our bylaws) and come into effect after either a year of monthly membership or paying one year at once.
- 5. From time to time we will have new tools, features, and trainings we will release initially to just our Ultimate and above memberships.
Go the Extra Mile.
Everyone has something to contribute, and these additional plans help accommodate those that cannot participate due to financial strain or those that would like to contribute a little more than what is required. We also offer easy ways to volunteer or donate to us.
Our Patrons are members whose additional contribution helps us tackle larger projects and expansions to the space. Patrons get everything at the Ultimate tier as well as unlimited guest passes, payment-optional classes, and the pride of sponsoring a Community Supported member. They also have the option of receiving public recognition in both our physical space and annual reports. Finally, our Patrons are invited to participate in a yearly brunch hosted by our board.
This program is for those that want to support a fellow maker who wouldn't otherwise be able to access the makerspace. Funds from Sponsors are earmarked for tool time and certification cost assistance for members in need. Your patronage also helps support North End Makers in our mission to provide an inclusive space for people to learn, create, and grow.
Our Community Supported memberships are for makers who are unable to reliably afford an Essential membership without significant hardship. These plans are subsidized by other memberships as well as our kind donors. There is a 2 week waiting period for new membership signups. Community Supported memberships are a six month commitment, but members may submit their renewal up to one month before the end of their plan to avoid the 2 week waiting period
The Fine Print
All paid memberships encompass your whole household, with some stipulations. Household means all people with the same physical address and additional household members will need to complete a one-time background check ($39) and pay for an additional RFID key ($5).
During the membership application, prospective members will perform a background check. Background checks are done by Sterling Volunteers and paid for by the applicant ($39) though that fee is waived if you have used Sterling for a previous check. "Failing" the background check does not mean you will not be a member, just that we cannot issue the membership immediately. Additional conversations will have to take place.
We are 100% volunteer-run. All members are part of the North End Makers community and expected to take part in the upkeep of the space and community.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccine required for entry. We are committed to the health and safety of our members and volunteers. We require space entrants to follow federal, state, and local guidelines for masking and distancing.
Minors must be chaperoned by guardians at all times. Household minors do not require a guest pass, but may not have their own key. Any trained tools (woodshop, lasercutter, etc) would require training as well as guardian consent to use, and may have age limits depending on their relative danger. All attendees of any age must be vaccinated.
